Julia is a registered holistic nutritionist, a designation she gained from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. Julia believes that natural nutrition is a foundational aspect of health and wellness. She works on an individual basis with each client to assess and address their specific barriers to an optimal diet. Julia believes that the healing potential of food comes not purely from what we eat. Digestion, stress levels and emotional wellness all impact the potential for nutritional healing.
Since graduating from the University of Victoria and CSNN, Julia has studied with Paul Pitchford and has developed a youth based program called Earth Bites to teach children the fundamentals of nutrition and gardening. She is also a teacher at CSNN, where she leads classes on eco-nutrition, allergies, Chinese medicine perspectives on food, nutritional research methodology, pediatric nutrition and optimal nutrition for the mind. She has also developed a workshop for students at CSNN on using nutrition as part of an integrated approach to recovery from addiction.
Julia approaches dietary change with her clients by encouraging a practice of intuitive eating. She understands that meaningful dietary change will not come about if her recommendations rely purely on willpower and discipline. Rather, eating should be an experience of joy and nourishment. By helping client's bring awareness to the impact of food on their overall sense of wellbeing, the physical needs and emotional cravings align. A healthy diet is achieved with flexibility and simplicity.
